PowerPoint and Word handle fonts properly with this easy fix

Are you facing some problems with fonts in Powerpoint 2007. I was going crazy with this problem with all my previous powerpoint presentations showing up all wrong. The fonts were not aligned inside the text boxes properly. Same problem on other pc’s and even after a full “repair” of the entire office 2007 suite did not solve the problem.

The font problem in powerpoint 2007 was solved when I reset the default printer to another printer, I can recommend a native pcl or better ps printer.

Now PowerPoint and Word handle fonts properly, did not even need to reboot, although I did have to stop and restart PowerPoint and Word for the fix to work.

Office 2007 offers a wide range of text formatting features, including text wrapping within a shape, text in columns or running vertically down a slide, and paragraph-level rulers. You can also now select discontinuous text.

New character styles provide you with more text choices. In addition to all of the standard styles of previous versions of PowerPoint.

Office PowerPoint 2007 comes with new themes, layouts, and Quick Styles that offer you a wide range of options when you are formatting your presentations. In the past, formatting a presentation took more time because you had to choose the color and style options individually for your tables, charts, and graphics and make sure that they matched one another. Themes simplify the process of creating professional presentations.

Hackers have managed to find a way to remove and disable the antipiracy protections built into Windows 7.

Ordinarily, the operating system requires users to activate their copy of Windows 7 within 30 days. A recently outlined method allows the normal notifications to be turned off.

The hack works to “activate” Windows 7 by bypassing activation altogether, and thus does not require any product key. The software doesn’t actually get confirmed as legitimate, but users are able to keep using the product indefinitely.

Microsoft confirmed on Friday it is aware of the technique, but said that it is working to shore up the activation procedure.

“We’re aware of this workaround and are already working to address it,” a Microsoft representative said in a statement, which also urged customers to only use genuine software, noting the fake stuff can contain malware and other bad things.

It’s the latest in a long history of cat-and-mouse moves between the makers of Windows and those who would rather not have to pay for the privilege.

As crack based on removal of activation component involves patching, changes and modification to many system files, it’s likely to be easily detected and nullified by Microsoft, especially in next WGA update or Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

Open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting

When you try to open a presentation that was saved in a Microsoft PowerPoint format and the presentation does not open. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting.

This issue may occur if an administrator has restricted the types of presentations that you can open in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 or in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003. An administrator can set a registry key to restrict this functionality.

For PowerPoint 2007, the registry key can be set in the 2007 Office System Administrative Templates. For more information, see the “PowerPoint 2007″ subsection of the “More Information” section.

To resolve this issue for PowerPoint 2003, disable the restriction on opening presentations that were blocked by the registry settings of PowerPoint. To do this, use the following method.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Use a trusted location, or create an exempt location

    * In PowerPoint 2007, if you trust the file that you want to open, you can move the file to a trusted location to override the registry policy settings.

For more information about how to create, to remove, or to change a trusted location for files, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA100319991033.aspx (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA100319991033.aspx)

In PowerPoint 2003, there are no trusted locations. You can create an exempt location to override the registry policy settings. To create an exempt location, follow these steps:

1. Exit PowerPoint 2003 or PowerPoint 2007.

2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

3. Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common

4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

5. Type OICEExemptions for the name for the key.

6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.

7. Type a string name, and then press ENTER. For example, type ExemptDirectory.

8. Right-click the string name that you typed in step 7, and then click Modify.

9. In the Value data box, type the path of the directory that contains the file, and then click OK. For example, if your document is in the C:\My Documents folder, type C:\My Documents in the Value data box.

Note You must create the folder. Any subfolders are not automatically exempted. For any additional folders that you would like to make exempt, repeat steps 6 to 9 by creating string values such as “ExemptDirectory1″ and “ExemptDirectory2.”

10. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

Apple’s discussion forums are starting to see reports of poor performance and incredibly slow Flash video playback with the new 27-inch iMacs.

Engadget reports that users have several issues, including inappropriate spinning down of the hard drive and corrupted Snow Leopard installations, the primary complaint seems to be poor Flash performance.

Engadget notes that it has not seen any such problems with its own machines, suggesting that the issues may not be universal. Regardless, the volume of complaints indicates that there may be a relatively significant issue that will require Apple’s attention. The company has yet to acknowledge or comment on the issues, but is likely to be studying them to determine possible causes.

I’m mostly using Fire fox and have not experienced any such problems.
